The Grade Calculator is based on the following formula:
grade = Σ ( scoreᵢ × weightᵢ ) / Σ weightᵢ
Variables: grade = Weighted course grade (%) scoreᵢ = Score on component i (%) weightᵢ = Weight of component i (share of the final grade)
Weighted average. Each score is multiplied by its weight (e.g. exam 40%, homework 60%), then divided by the total weight. Higher-weighted items move the grade more.
Worked example: Step 1: midterm 85% at 30%, homework 92% at 20%, final 78% at 50%. Step 2: weighted sum = 85 × 0.30 + 92 × 0.20 + 78 × 0.50 = 25.5 + 18.4 + 39 = 82.9. Result: the course grade is 82.9% — a B, with the 50% final doing most of the damage.
