The liter is one cubic decimeter, so 1 L = 1000 cm³ exactly and 1 m³ = 1000 L. US and imperial gallons differ by about 20% (3.785 L vs 4.546 L), a classic source of errors when mixing UK recipes or fuel figures with US ones.
