Daily protein target in grams, tuned to your weight and goal.
🥩 Ranges follow ISSN & ACSM position stands: 0.8 g/kg is the RDA floor for sedentary adults; training and caloric deficits raise needs. Spread intake across 3-5 meals.
The RDA floor of 0.8 g/kg prevents deficiency but is not optimal for active people. Sports-nutrition consensus (ISSN, ACSM) places trained individuals at 1.2–2.2 g/kg, with fat-loss phases at the high end to preserve muscle.
Daily total drives results. Spreading intake across 3–5 meals with 20–40 g each slightly improves muscle protein synthesis versus one huge meal, but totals come first.
Chicken breast (31 g/100 g), Greek yogurt (10 g/100 g), eggs (6 g each), lentils (9 g/cup cooked), whey protein (~25 g/scoop). Mixing plant and animal sources covers amino-acid needs comfortably.
In people with healthy kidneys, controlled studies at up to 2.8 g/kg show no harm. Those with existing chronic kidney disease should follow their nephrologist’s guidance rather than general sports advice.

The Protein Intake Calculator lets you figure out protein intake calculatorinstantly, without reaching for a spreadsheet or doing the math by hand. Whether you're planning a budget, checking a loan, or working through homework, the tool applies the correct formula behind the scenes and shows the result the moment you enter your numbers.
Unlike a static chart or table, this calculator adapts to your exact inputs. You can adjust any value and see the outcome update in real time, which makes it easy to compare scenarios — for example, "what if the rate were 1% lower?" or "what if I paid an extra $50 a month?"
Common uses: people reach for this tool when they need to find a protein calculator for muscle building, how much protein to lose weight, protein per kg body weight, or high protein diet amount calculator.
Browser-based tools like this one have a few real advantages over installed software or manual methods:
The Protein Intake Calculator is based on the following formula:
Protein (g/day) = W × f f: 0.8 (RDA, sedentary), 1.2-1.6 (active), 1.6-2.2 (building muscle; higher end also for fat loss)
Variables: Protein = Daily protein target (grams per day) W = Body weight (kg; lb ÷ 2.205) f = Factor in grams of protein per kg of body weight: 0.8 sedentary RDA, 1.2-1.6 active, 1.6-2.2 muscle gain or fat loss
Protein needs are set per kilogram of body weight, not as one fixed number. The 0.8 g/kg RDA is only the amount that prevents deficiency; sports-nutrition research supports 1.2-2.2 g/kg for active people, with the top of the range when building muscle or dieting.
Worked example: Step 1: Weight 154 lb → W = 154 / 2.205 ≈ 70 kg. Step 2: Goal is muscle gain, so f = 1.6-2.2 g/kg. Step 3: Lower end: 70 × 1.6 = 112 g/day; upper end: 70 × 2.2 = 154 g/day. Result: aim for roughly 112-154 g of protein per day.
