A pascal is one newton per square meter. The atmosphere is defined as exactly 101,325 Pa and 1 bar = 100,000 Pa, so bar and the hPa used on weather charts are nearly the same scale. Millimeters of mercury come from old barometers and survive in blood pressure readings.
